Brad Stevens started his entrepreneurial journey in 3rd grade, running a Micro Machines rental operation with 600 units, paper credit cards he designed himself, typed newsletters, and a self-appointed title of VP of Sales & Marketing. Entrepreneurship wasn't a career choice. It was wiring.
After his family went through bankruptcy when economic shifts crushed the family business, Brad held two jobs at 20, cared for two younger sisters, and finished at the Wharton School (Finance + Marketing, magna cum laude) early. He accepted an investment banking job, but the firm collapsed two weeks before his start date.
With $2,000 in severance, he launched a company helping low-income families access free prescription medications. It made the front page of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
From there Brad built a nutritional products company, a beauty brand, and a global teeth-whitening business spanning 18 countries. He's a lifetime entrepreneur who has worked with thousands of fellow founders through EO (Entrepreneurs' Organization).
Then a manufacturing failure nearly destroyed everything. Products were literally exploding. Cash was hemorrhaging. Brad was facing the real possibility of losing it all.
In that crisis, he discovered offshore staffing through Tim Ferriss's The 4-Hour Workweek. He hired his first virtual assistant out of desperation, not strategy. That VA helped stabilize operations, cut costs, and kept the business alive long enough to pivot.
